Most Economists Oppose Another Stimulus

The latest buzz going around Washington is that we need another, larger stimulus bill to help the economy get back on its feet. The most recent jobs report showed that the economy doesn’t appear to improving.

The problem with first stimulus is that it was heavily geared toward pork projects like the butterfly park near my house. What we really need is for Washington to be more pro-free enterprise. I’ll take any tax cut, but I don’t think the current Congress can do that–it’s simply not in their nature.

The Wall Street Journal also reports that most economists are against the idea of a second stimulus. Just eight of 51 economists said more stimulus is necessary. This news will hopefully stop the plans of another stimulus. In my opinion, the goal of public policy should be improving confidence and speeding up the velocity of money.
